Scandal by Kate Brian

I was extremely ecstatic to read Scandal by Kate Brian. It is the eleventh book in the Private series and I have loved every single book so far so I knew this one would be great. Reed has just returned to Easton Academy after her horrific Caribbean vacation where someone had attempted to murder her twice. But when she comes back to reality nothing is better. The school has just knocked down Billings. Which were her home and a part of who she is. Now the school has scrambled her friends up and put them on complete opposite sides of the campus to punish them. Reed is furious and attempts to create a Billings a Secert society in order to keep the billings sprit alive. Along with this disaster she must also fight to urge to kiss her ex boyfriend Josh who is currently going out with one of her best friends. Reed is fighting an unknown force when she attempts to create the billings Literacy Society and the people trying to stop her will not stop until the message is clear and they are destroyed. These books are fun quick reads with romance, mystery, and murder. Each book leaves you on a cliffhanger and this last one was no excuse. The ending caused my chin to drop and for me to gasp—I was so surprised by what happened. I cannot wait for the next book to come out and see what happens to Reed, Josh and Billings.

To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker

I just finished To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker and really enjoyed it. When pirates invade the ship Annalisa is traveling on she loses her innocence, heart, and treasure. Now she is on the quest to recover the lost treasure and imprison the pirate that stole her heart. James Sterling, the pirate in question, will do anything to avoid capture and when he is forced to work with Annalisa in order to reclaim his ship and revenge he discovers that the greater challenging is not defeating his former captain but securing his heart. In this novel Annalisa and James must work together to get revenge. It is a cute book with many different characters that add to the plot and make it more compelling. The ending surprised me in some ways but this novel is one of those typical romance novels. Set in the 1700’s many new ideas about women and their social role are tested when Annalisa, a woman of high class, becomes a captain of a ship and leaves behind the safety of land. This is uncommon for women to do and I liked how as a woman she takes charge and is the heroine. I would recommend this novel to others for it is a quick and fun easy read.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

I just finished Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey. In this book it is Jessica Packwood’s senior year of high school and everything was going perfectly, that is until an instantly hot vampire shows up at her home and tells her that they are destined to marry when she turns eighteen. His name is Lucius Vladescu and he is driving her insane. She must handle her budding vampire senses and senior year through out the book. I really liked it the book in the end, but at first I wanted to just abandon it. In the beginning it seems like every other silly vampire book that is out right now, but as the story develops the characters become more unique and likeable. The plot becomes twisted when Lucius ends up crushing on Jessica’s sometimes friend Faith and develops into an enjoyable surprising book I think many others would enjoy reading. Overall it was a cute book with a new view on vampire love.

Ending of Along for the Ride

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen is a great book so far. Auden has just meet Eli, another loner who doesn’t like to sleep at night. They bond instantly and he takes her on adventures every night to help her to experience the missed childhood she had and to help Auden discovers whom she really is. I love Eli, he is amazing for Auden and is helping her to change and become more of herself. Each night together they embark on a new adventure that helps Auden grow and Eli get over the loss of his friend who died last year. Along with meeting Eli, Auden is making more friends and learning that she is her own person and does not have to act like her mother wants her too. I loved the ending of this book it was sweet and I did not expect it. Usually books like this have an obvious ending but this one didn’t and that was something that I enjoyed immensely. I would recommend this to others because I found it to be a wonderful read where I was able to learn about myself and realize things about the world.

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

I am reading Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. I love this book so far: it is cute, fun, and entertaining. The novel takes place during Auden’s last summer before college when she visits her father and her stepmother at the beach. Auden is a very deep character who has many different qualities that the reader can see immediately. Since she is such an interesting character it makes the novel a lot better. Auden has missed out on a lot of childhood activities because she was always trying to impress her parents by receiving good grades and excelling in academia. This all changes though when she visits her father and his new family. She now has a new baby sister and must face the challenge of living with people who do not expect her to act like a mini adult but act like a teenager. She has a hard time adjusting to the new people in her life and her new job in a clothing store. So far I really like this book. Auden is interesting and the plot is just beginning to form. I cannot wait to see what will happen to her.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

I just finished Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. In this book there are two main characters, Grace and Sam, who trade off narrating the novel. Sam is boy who whenever the weather becomes cold turns into a wolf. While this has been happening Grace was always the one watching from the outside. For six years they have been watching each other in the woods, unaware of what the other person was. This all changes though was Sam is hunted and is shot causing him to accidently turn into his human form. Grace is the one who saves him and from the moment they meet they fall in love. This book is very good because it does create its one form of a werewolf but once again it is like every other silly werewolf book out right now: The two meet and fall magically in love. However this all occurs within the first fifty or so pages. The main part of the book is Sam and Grace’s attempt to keep the cold weather from making Sam turn back into wolf form. Grace is hoping that their love will stop him from changing but it is useless to think because they know of no cure to save Sam. When I first begin this book I was instantly compelled to the characters. They are funny and likeable people in the book. Even though this book is like others I have read I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others. I would recommend it to others who enjoy reading about werewolf’s and magical worlds. Overall I would give it a four out of five.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

In The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, Belly has always been the odd one out; she was never really accepted into the gang that consisted of her brother, Steven, and her two good friends Conrad and Jeremiah. This all changes though the summer before she turns sixteen for Belly has “become pretty”. Now all the sudden both Conrad and Jeremiah want to be with Belly and she doesn’t know who to choose. Ever since she was young she had been in love with Conrad but now he was different, he had changed and not for the good. The book switches from Belly’s childhood to the present which allows the reader to learn more about the characters and understand why the act now. The book is all about summer for everything that Belly defines as happiness has occurred in the summer with the boys. I really liked this book it had a very sweet and surprising ending. In just a few chapters Belly becomes a real person and leaps off the page. She is extremely likeable and I enjoyed the book a lot. I would recommend this book to others.

Devil’s Kiss by Sarwat Chadda

I just read Devil’s Kiss by Sarwat Chadda. This book is a science fiction slash romance book. Since Billi was born she was destined to be a member of Knights Templar, a secret group of people sworn to keep the “unholy” away from society. Billi however just met this gorgeous boy and when suddenly her best friend Kay returns too she must choose between him, Kay, or the Knights Templar. The plot of this book is confusing at first because it takes a few chapters for the author to describe exactly what the Knights Templar do and I found it boring. I didn’t love this book and it annoyed me because I was really looking forward to reading it. It was almost too predictable and I felt like it was such an amazing idea and plot but the author could have written it much better. However it was good and I would recommend it to others.

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

I was excited to read Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard because many people had recommended it to me and loved it, however I was disappointed. I thought it was decent but I didn’t love it and I thought it was too typical and boring. The book begins when the five main characters: Spencer, Aria, Emily, Hanna, and Alison are in seventh grade. It talks about how they became friends and this is where the plot begins. One day Alison disappears and the other girls begin to drift apart with the loss of their friend. The book then skips to their junior year in high school. The girls are completely different and are no longer close. Suddenly they each begin to receive mysterious notes or text messages revealing their deep dark secrets that they thought only their missing friend Ali knew. As the book goes on the notes come more often and the girls do not know who to trust or what to do. I don’t know if I will read the rest of the books in the series even though I do want to know whom the person is who is sending all the creepy notes.

Ending of If I Stay by Gayle Forman

I could not believe the ending of this book, it was romantic and heartbreaking at the same time. It was a dreadfully sad ending but I think that the author ended it perfectly. Even though it ends very simply I thought that it the sweetest possible ending. The reader doesn’t find out exactly what happens to Mia or her relationship with Adam but I’m guessing that they stay together and that Mia goes to Julliard. What Mia has to face is so terrible and will affect her for the rest of her life. If I was in her situation I do not know what I would choose, I think that I would chose to live but it is so hard to face the reality that everyone in your family is gone forever. It was such a compelling and sad book that it actually made me cry. I recommend this book to others, it is so good and I feel like everyone could like it and that they should read it. It is a book that will last for generations because it is so timeless and the feelings that Mia faces will never change even as time passes.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

I am reading If I Stay by Gayle Forman and I love it. When Mia and her family go for a car ride one snowy morning she suddenly finds herself floating in between death and life. One second she is singing along to the radio and the next both her parents are dead and her younger brother is barley living. While Mia’s body is in the hospital Mia must watch all her loved ones come and visit her body while she is stuck in this ghost like trance. Throughout the book you learn about whom she is and all the little important memories and people in her life. So far the book is incredibly sad but it is such a page-turner. The emotions that she faces are so miserable and yet so realistic. I don’t know if Mia will choose to kept fighting or will give up and die. I hope she keeps hope and stays alive because she has so many people that love her and are waiting for her to open her eyes. Even though it is terrible knowing that her entire family is dead I hope she wakes up and I predict that she will, because other wise it would be too sad. I cannot wait to see what happens.

Don’t Judge A Girl By Her Cover by Ally Carter

I just read the third book in the Gallagher Girl series, Don’t Judge A Girl By Her Cover by Ally Carter. The book began when the main character, Cammie, was thrown into an attempted kidnapping. After she barely escapes she devotes the rest of the book trying to uncover the truth about who they were trying to kidnap and why. Cammie goes to a top-secret school for teenage spies. While I was reading the book I kept getting extremely excited because so many things were happening that I never saw coming. This book was really good and I would recommend this series to others. It is not a typical girl book because the characters are different, they are spies and their whole life is about facing disaster and overcoming death and of course boys. It was a page-turner and easy read with a fun plot to keep the reader interested.

Seventeenth summer by Maureen Daly

I just read Seventeenth Summer by Maureen Daly and loved it. It was so descriptive and had a sweet and innocent feeling, which I thought was what made it so good. I couldn’t believe it when I found out that it was written in the 1940’s, it seemed as if it could have been written last year. The feelings the characters have and the situations they go through would be the same even if it were written recently. In this book shy, naïve Angie Morrow falls for the handsome popular Jack when they meet at the local hang out. Suddenly Angie is feeling all these new intense feelings that come with first love and she begins to realize the truth about adulthood. With college looming in the fall Angie must uncover the truth about Jack and their blooming relationship. I loved how innocent the book was and how truthful. In the end I wanted to know about the future for Angie and Jack. I wished that they would meet in the future and rekindle their love, they were perfect for each other and I would defiantly recommend this book to others. It was a lovable story and rewarding read.

Belong To Me by Marisa de los Santos

I read Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos this past weekend. Immediately, I was drawn to the characters, they were descriptive and as the novel went on I learned a lot about them. I loved how Teo and Cornelia had known each other since they were little. I thought it added to them and it was just the perfect happily ever ending to have them married. Also when you discover, in the end, that Dev was Teo's son I found it interesting because Cornelia and Teo had been with each other since they were little kids and even though she believed she knew everything about him I liked how she didn’t. It made the book more realistic and relatable. I liked the character of Lake she was very complex. Throughout the book you learn about her and her son Dev but you never really know the truth. Their story is not very clear from the beginning and therefore I figured that in the end there would be some sort of huge twist like the one that occurred. I loved how in the end, Piper got her happily ever after, she managed to survive the death of her best friend, divorce, and social rejection. I would recommend this book to others who want a good book with an interesting compelling storyline. It was not one of my favorites but I defiantly want to read another book by this author in the future.

Ending of Jane Eyre

I was both happy and annoyed when I read the ending of Jane Eyre. I was very glad when Jane went back to Mr. Rochester and they decided to get married, but I was so mad that he was blind. I feel like he could have had any other injury but to be blind was so upsetting. I mean he couldn't even see her and I just felt torn because I could just imagine how she felt when he couldn't see her finally standing in front of him again. Otherwise I liked how after all the years of believing that she had no family in the world she finally discovered three cousins who she loved and was able to spend time with. I felt like the character of Saint John Rivers was a little annoying with his overbearing attitude but he defiantly added to the plot and kept the story interesting. I would recommend this book to others and cannot wait to reread it. Already I have begun to reread my favorite scenes.

Jane Eyre By Charlotte Brontë

I am currently reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I like it a lot and would recommend it to others because it is a book that captures you and keep’s you reading. The beginning I thought was a little slow when it tells all about Jane’s childhood but I feel that it was necessary and added to the character so that she is not just a one dimensional person. I recently just got up to the part where Jane and Mr. Rochester are about to get married when the ceremony is interrupted and Jane finds out that he is already married to a sordid women that lives in the house. I think that his wife is the one that set the bed on fire, ruined her wedding veil, and has caused most of the strange noises. I predict that because Jane is the kind of women who cannot handle stress well and now finds herself in an embarrassing situation, will run away and leave Mr. Rochester. I do think that in the end though they will end up together but I don’t know how the book will play out. I am eager to know and cannot wait to finish the novel and discover the truth.

Fallen by Lauren Kate

I just completed my newest book Fallen by Lauren Kate; I loved this book and couldn’t leave it before I knew the ending. I loved the writing style and the characters personalities. When reading each chapter I was drawn into the complex plot as a love triangle forms when Luce falls passionately in love with Daniel Grigori the mysterious guy that she swears has meet before and the cool Cam. After a terrible accident where a guy dies when Luce is with him she is thrown into a reform school in the middle of nowhere. All around her are tough, messed up kids who seem to have it out against Luce. As the novel goes on Luce discovers more then she could imagine about herself and Daniel. I was given this book as a present and couldn’t put it down; it was that addicting. It has a dark forbidden romance to it, but also a secret twist and compelling plot to keep you guessing till the very end. I would recommend it to others who like the twilight series or really enjoy a good mysterious read.

A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley

I recently finished the novel A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley. I read it over the span of two days; I couldn’t seem to put it down and constantly wanted to know how to lives of the characters in the book would end. Set in Iowa in the late 1970s, Ginny Cook Smith, whose point of view the book is told, must face the challenges of running a respected farm and prosperous life. She faces many challenges when her father’s large farm, a thousand acres, is given to her, her sister, and their husbands. Now she faces the challenge of living up to families name and the pressures in her marriage. It was interesting for me to read this because I do not know a lot about this time era, we don’t learn about it in school and it is too long ago for me to understand. I enjoyed reading about the challenges the characters faced on a farm when all around them the world is changing and new technology is becoming available to them. I appreciated how the author would tell a little about Ginny’s childhood in the beginning of each chapter and then connect it to the events happening in her life currently. I am glad that I read this book when it was recommend to me and would recommend it to others.

The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz

I recently read The Van Alen Legacy by Melissa De La Cruz; it is the fourth book in the blue bloods series. In this novel Schuyler, the main character must discover the truth about the death of her grandfather and the return of the deadly silver bloods. Finally after months of distrust her fellow blue blood vampires finally believe her that the silver bloods have returned and plan on bring death and destruction to all that try and stop them. While on the run, Schuyler meets up with her former love interest and together they must help save the coven of vampires, and also stay away from the jealous relationships they left behind. With the world of the blue bloods in a mess and a hidden silver blood within it, no one is to be trusted and each character faces a disturbing truth. I love Melissa de la Cruz’s writing it is descriptive and compelling. The blue bloods series is a thrilling series with adventure, romance, and hidden secrets. I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys vampires but also a book that brings old theories into present day life. I know that I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Splendor also by Anna Godbersen

I love historical fiction, I love reading about how life was before I was born, I love seeing how humanity has grown as a whole and how it has changed, yet stayed so much the same. I recently reread Envy by Anna Godbersen and read Splendor also by Anna Godbersen. The books are based on the turn of the twenty century. The book revolves around five main characters and follows their lives as they enter New York society and become the people they are. There is lots of scandal, fighting, and forbidden romance in this book. Even though it is based in 1900 many of the issues that the characters face are similar to those today. When I am reading these books I feel like I am walking down the street and am experiencing what the characters are. I like how the author puts you in the scene through her descriptive language and sensory images. I would recommend this book to girls who like historical fiction and books filled with scandal, love, and fashion. It is defiantly worth the read.
